4 Kinds of People to Surround Yourself With

At 2313 Inc. we believe that a solid support system can often be the difference between a good and a great career.

giphy9

When you’ve got great people supporting you, even the toughest times are tolerable. When you’re down and your challenges seem insurmountable, you’ve got those awesome people in your corner who help you keep going. When you’re questioning your goals, your choices, and even your identity, your squad has your back and will guide you back on course.

Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. When the wrong people make up your inner circle, everything in your life can seem more difficult. It can be harder to stay focused on your goals, and it can be all-the-more tempting to throw in the towel when obstacles come your way.

For this reason, it’s important to pay close attention to who you surround yourself with on a day to day basis.

Here are 4 kinds of people you want on your team:

1 – People who look on the bright side. Positive people will contribute to your overall productivity and confidence. You need people in your life who can be counted on to always see the good in every situation.

giphy10

2 – People who are on a mission too. Individuals who strive for the things they want in life are great role models to have around. These aren’t the people who will tell you to quit when times get tough; rather, they’ll know from their own personal experience how important it is to chase after your goals — especially when it’s the hardest.

giphy8

3 – People who will give it to you straight. Everyone needs the honest and constructive advice. Sometimes, you really need that friend who will give you tough love and just tell you the truth about a wrong turn you’ve made.

4 – Your biggest fans. Whether these people are your family, significant other, close friends or even your beloved pet, it is so great to have someone who always sees the best in you.

The people around you have a tremendous ability to influence your feelings of support and self-confidence whether they are colleagues, friends, or family members.

At 2313 Inc. we strive to build a supportive community and positive work environment—how do you build your own positive environment?

2 Lessons We Can Learn From Super Bowl Sunday

giphy

We Detroit fans might not have a dog in the fight, but all of us at 2313 Inc. are still pumped for the upcoming Super Bowl on Sunday, February 4th. The New England Patriots are hoping to grab their 6th Super Bowl ring in Sunday’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tom Brady, who spent his college football career at the University of Michigan, will try to slice through one of the league’s toughest defenses; and if he gets his 6th ring, it will be hard not to call him the best of all time.

giphy3

Nick Foles (who has been filling in for Philadelphia’s starting quarterback, Carson Wentz), on the other hand, has never been recognized as an elite player since he was drafted in 2012. However, his performance and reliability has been remarkable and he will not make it easy for the Patriots.

The most important game of the year, on the biggest stage of them all, is full of lessons we should all learn! Here are 2 of our team’s biggest takeaways at 2313 Inc.

1. Never Give Up

Tom Brady didn’t get here by accident. The 40 year old veteran is always improving, adapting, and practicing to ensure he is prepared and unstoppable. Last year, the New England Patriots were down 28-3 to the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl. Atlanta fans were ecstatic because they could literally see the Lombardi Trophy awaiting them, while New England fans were submerged in sadness, hoping their team would at least score a few touchdowns so the blowout wouldn’t be so bad.

giphy4

As the story goes, the Patriots kicked it into gear after halftime. They knew what they needed to do and they didn’t let the hype, embarrassment, and noise affect their plan. Tom Brady ended up throwing for 2 touchdowns and 466 yards, ultimately beating the Falcons 34-28 and completing the largest Super Bowl comeback in NFL history. Even if the chips are down, there is always a chance for victory.

2. Be Reliable

When Carson Wentz tore his ACL, Philadelphia fans were certain their season was over. When it was realized that Nick Foles was now leading the team, there was no optimism to be found. However, instead of cracking under the pressure and opinions, Foles fulfilled his role and has lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl since the team’s loss to the Patriots in 2004. In business, you sometimes have to step up and take more responsibility than you’re used to — and who knows, perhaps you’ll SHINE! As we say daily at 2313 Inc.: know what your goal is, have a plan to get there, and develop a team who you can rely on!

3 Great Questions to Launch Deeper Conversations

Here at 2313 Inc. (Farmington Hills, MI), we are in the relationship building business. IMG_0109.jpeg

Whether you are at a business function or cocktail party, small-talk can be repetitive, awkward, and outright boring. Conversations that delve deep into engaging and meaningful topics are the ones that keep us entertained for hours!

giphy6

At 2313 Inc., we stress the importance of relationship-building beyond the surface level. We hope you’ll benefit from these 3 awesome questions to help you launch into deeper conversations in your own life!

1. “If you could go back to the beginning of your career and start over, would you do anything differently?”

This is an excellent question to set you up with a deep conversation with the person you’re talking to. If you’re lucky enough to ask this to someone you admire, you will open new doors and learn a lot more about their experience than you would through ordinary small talk. You can get into specifics and it will lead to different streams of deep conversation!

2. “What are the 3 things you are most passionate about?”

People love to talk about their passions—it’s a refreshing and personal switch from talking about the weather or traffic.! Picking a single favorite anything is always strenuous, so by giving them 3 options you are making it easier for them to decide. This question will also reveal the things they spend the most time and thought on, which will allow you to get to know them on a more personal level.

3. “What would be your perfect day?”

This is a great way to learn more about someone’s interests, goals, and desires. It’s a simple question, but it is one that will produce an insightful and honest answer. You will learn more about them as a person while being able to discuss each aspect of their ‘perfect day’, making for an awesome, deep conversation. Be sure to have the details of your own ‘perfect day’ ready to go because they will likely ask in return!

3 of our Favorite Hacks for Getting Out of an Unmotivated Rut

Our team at 2313 Inc. (Farmington Hills, MI) will be the first to admit — even if you’re excited about the career you’re building, it’s only human to feel a little “off” from time to time.

giphy4

The truth is that you’ll inevitably fall into more than a few uninspired slumps over the course of your career, as well as your life in general. That’s normal! While it’s no easy task to crawl back out of these ruts, learning how to do so quickly and effectively is a vital skill—especially when you work in a fast-paced industry such as business or sales.

Don’t worry! We’ve been there before and we get it. That’s why 2313 Inc. has you covered with 3 of our favorite tricks for recharging and revitalizing your motivation.

1) Break up your routine

Oftentimes, the way that people end up in a rut is by repeating the same habits and routines over and over again. So it follows that one of the best ways to get out of a slump is to send a shock to your system by changing things up. Figure out which things you do every day and choose one or two of them to modify. Do you usually shower at night? Try waking up a few minutes early to shower before work instead! Do you usually eat lunch at your desk? Bring a blanket or beach towel and sit outside with your meal instead.

giphy3

2) Consume some inspiring content

The world that we live in is so saturated with news and social media that it’s easy to allow yourself to turn into a pessimist. With all of that negativity, it’s no wonder that you may end up feeling uninspired and burnt out. Counteract these negative influences with a surplus of uplifting and positive songs, TV shows, movies, books, podcasts, or any other form of media. Watching a TED talk or commencement speech video are two great options for some quick motivation!

giphy2

3) Help someone out

This one might be our favorite. It may sound a little counterproductive to direct your focus to someone else when you’re already struggling to get motivated and productive, but you’d be surprised how effective this approach can be. Helping someone else to achieve something can change your mood dramatically. A bonus effect is that it’ll help you to get out of your head and coincidentally out of your rut.

3. “In 2018, I will take every opportunity to express my appreciation to those around me.”

Verbally sharing and physically showing appreciation are natural next steps to feeling gratitude internally (#2 on our list).

giphy1

We stumbled upon a pretty awesome quote on Twitter recently:

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” -William Arthur Ward

It’s easy to assume that the people around us know that we appreciate them — and in most cases, they probably do. But, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make them feel good to hear you express it.

There isn’t a person on earth who doesn’t feel a spark of joy when given a genuine compliment or when recognized for their hard work. So why not share the love? Who knows, it might be great for your own life and career.

Perhaps 2018 will be the year in which you go out of your way to verbalize your gratitude to those whom you appreciate.

giphy2

4. “In 2018, I will plan my week in advance, every single week.”

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you’re just flying by the seat of your pants, rushing around to get things done, jotting down reminders in random places, and just feeling utterly overwhelmed? We all have.

giphy3

The problem with those disorganized weeks is that not only do you feel terrible, but your productivity isn’t optimal either.

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” -Benjamin Franklin

In this new year, make it your mission to avoid being disheveled at all costs. The most effective way to do this is to make it a top priority to always plan out your week — before the new week begins.

Many people like to do this on Sunday, but it doesn’t necessarily matter which day you choose. What is most important is that you take the time to think through the priorities of the week, and to organize your time accordingly.

Make 2018 the year you plan and prioritize.

New Year’s Resolutions for the Go-Getter [Part 1]

With a brand new year beginning in less than 2 weeks, all of us at 2313 Inc. (Farmington Hills, MI) are fine-tuning our resolutions for 2018. With this fresh set of 365 days comes the hope of happiness, success, and abundance; and we don’t know about you, but we’ve got some pretty big goals in mind at 2313 Inc.

giphy

If you could use some help putting together your own objectives for the year ahead, we’ve compiled a list of New Year’s resolutions worth committing to:

1. “In 2018, I will wake up 1 hour earlier every day.”

Ponder this one for a second: waking up an hour earlier every day will give you an extra 365 hours in your life to get things done. That’s 15 days! Whoa.

Imagine how much progress you could make on anything with all of that extra time.

Perhaps you’ll use your mornings to start a new workout routine before heading to the office. Or, maybe you’ll use the extra hour to read the news and become a more informed citizen. How about listening to a podcast or audiobook that will help you in your career? The possibilities are endless! Choose one or two things and commit.

So, instead of staying up late binging on season 2 of Stranger Things, exercise that self-discipline muscle and head to sleep so you can wake up 1 hour ahead of schedule!

2. “In 2018, I will take a moment each day to reflect about what I am grateful for.”

A big element of acquiring (and maintaining) the inner peace necessary to tackle challenging goals is feeling grateful for what you already have.

If you aren’t already in the habit of doing so, perhaps 2018 will be the year in which you take a moment each day to think about what you are thankful for in your life. This is an extremely useful tool for managing stress, overcoming obstacles, and grounding yourself when you’re feeling frustrated. When you remind yourself of how fortunate you are, you are likely to feel optimistic and energized.

Keep challenging yourself and keep wanting more — but be grateful for what you already have and the journey that you’re on.

3 Habits That Strong Leaders Swear By

If you know anything about 2313 Inc. (Farmington Hills, MI), you know that our team is full of remarkable leaders. But as any of them will tell you, being a great leader is no easy task. It’s a skill that takes constant hard work and a whole lot of good habits. They will also tell you that they didn’t become the leaders that they are today without learning a few of those practices from other phenomenal leaders. We gathered a list of 3 of the most valuable habits that our own exceptional leaders swear by to help you become the best leader that you can be.

2313-Inc

Three exemplary leaders whom we’re proud to work with!

1) Always be early

Making a habit of being early for presentations, meetings, and especially work gives you a little extra time to prepare. What questions do you want to ask after a presentation? What ideas do you want to contribute during a meeting? What are the most important tasks that you need to accomplish for that day? If you’re leading the meeting or presentation, what items do you want to spend a little extra time discussing? Having a few more minutes to think over and answer these kinds of questions will ensure that you’re ready for anything. When you’re in a position of authority, it’s crucial to be prepared and to set a good example for your team. As the team leaders of 2313 Inc. will attest to, if you start putting in the extra effort to arrive early, they probably will too!

2) Consistently produce quality work

Actions really do speak louder than words. At 2313 Inc. we believe that it’s unfair and unrealistic to expect your team to always work hard and deliver excellent work if you’re a lazy leader. The single most effective way to motivate your team to do their very best is to make sure that you are doing yours. As with all of these habits, your team will behave in the same manner that you do, so lead by example!

3) Facilitate communication

Healthy communication is at the core of every successful relationship. Being a great leader is no different. Make sure that every member of your team knows that they can come talk to you about anything and that you will be completely transparent with them in return. Invest your time in building strong relationships with the people you lead, because your team is more likely to follow you if they respect you.

Don’t wait until tomorrow to start practicing these positive habits. Becoming a good leader takes time, so start as soon as possible!
